I was given a Nicholas de Grandmaison portrait book years ago by my friend Chief Kitpou. This was the first exposure that I had to these incredible pastel paintings. Since then I have seen many of his portraits in galleries and collections. This helped to fuel my passion for painting historical figures. You can read about Walking buffalo by ckilcking here .

"Lots of people hardly even feel real soil under their feet, see plants grow except in flower pots, or get far enough beyond the street lights to catch the enchantment of a night sky studded with stars. When people live far from scenes of the Great Spirit’s making, it’s easy for them to forget his laws". - Walking Buffalo, 1958
