This painting of a Peigan (Blackfoot) man was inspired partly by a Curtis photograph and also from a visit to Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump Museum just north-west of Fort Macleod, Alberta. He holds the sacred red pipe of the buffalo gift and asks for the return of the buffalo and traditional ways. While he puts on a brave face, he knows secretly by intuition from the Great Spirit that many generations will pass before reconcilliation will come.
